Welcome to DTP+G
----------------
Thank you for purchasing this CD-ROM. It was no mean feat putting it
all together! My objective when I first thought of the idea was to
collate all the fonts, clip art and DTP related software from our
Shareware library and make it available on a single CD-ROM which would
contain everything you'll ever need for Desktop Publishing on your
Atari, regardless of which DTP program you use. After all, there are
very few CDs aimed at Atari users and none targetted at Desktop
Publishing/Word Processing, surely the biggest use to which computers
are put! What's more, we really need more English language CDs, so
here you have it, the contents of DTP+G are about 90% English and
there's two German to English translation programs to help you tackle
those which are not.
So far so good, at least in theory! In practice there was going to be
a lot of unused space on this disk so I had to think of something to
fill it with. As a result I decided to widen the scope of the CD to
include word processors, printer drivers and eventually, graphics
packages. Even that was not enough so we added much of the computer
generated art we've amassed over the last ten years. The result is the
complete one stop solution to all your Desktop Publishing, Word
Processing and Graphic Art requirements on one CD! That's how it all
came about. Please read the rest of this document as it contains lots
of useful information about the CD.
I would like to extend my thanks to John Weller (former co-editor of
STEN disk magazine) for countless megabytes of excellent fonts (he
alone supplied over 500 of them!) and some of the best quality scans
on this CD. My thanks also go to Nigel Scoot, a retired professional
photographer who has allowed us to include a collection of over 500
JPEG images of his photographs amassed over the last 50 years. Also
thanks to many of the authors (and others) who assisted in one way
or another during the compilation of this disk. They include (in no
particular order - not even alphabetical!) Joe Connor, Denesh Bhabuta,
Charles Edwards, Steve Llewellyn, Annius Groeninck, Holger Weets (an
invaluable German contact), Steven van Rosen, Michael Thaenitz, Thomas
Kerkloh, Frank Storm, Julian Reschke, Andrew Lee, Thomas Binder,
Christoph Bartholme, Christophe Boyanique, Alexander Clauss, Ulrich
Rossgoderer, Joergen von Bargen and everyone I've forgotten!
Last but not least, a big thank you to all authors whose work is
included on this disc. Without you, we would have nothing...
Dedicated to my wife Eileen, a long-suffering computer widow!
Regards
Steve Delaney (Senior Partner)

Shareware
---------
Much of the software included on this compilation is classified as
Shareware. If you did not already know, this is 'try before you buy'
software. The deal is that you try out the software for a limited
period of time (it usually says how long in the on-disk documentation)
and if you end up continuing to use it, you are morally obliged to
register with the author for a modest fee. Some products have features
disabled which are only available when you register, others are full
implementations. Regardless, it it says Shareware, it's not free!
Please note that purchasing this CD-ROM does not absolve you from
paying the Shareware fees. The charge we make for this disc is in
respect of our production costs and our time spent in collating and
cataloguing the material on it. Most of the contents of the disk
(especially the Clip Art and the majority of the fonts) are Public
Domain and no registration fee is required. However, in cases where
the software is Shareware (the on-disc documentation will advise where
appropriate) you must pay the fee (to the author or his appointed
representatives) if you continue to use his work.
As well as doing the 'right thing' by registering, you also help
ensure further development of quality programs for the Atari range of
computers, something which is in all our interests. Many of the more
recent Shareware releases are of as high a standard as the commercial
releases of several years ago (some are better). Despite many
programmers moving to other machines, a dedicated band remain. Please
support them because you need them as much as they need you. OK,
sermon over and thanks for your support.
Advice On Registering Shareware
-------------------------------
Some of the software on this CD-ROM is a few years old and no longer
supported by its author. Although we always encourage users to
register their Shareware, we also accept that problems can be
encountered when registering older titles. Our advice to you when you
wish to register a title which has a release date (usually mentioned
in the 'About' menu entry or in the docs) of more than a year ago,
send a letter to the author saying that you wish to register his
product but would like to confirm that he is still supporting it and
enquire as to the current registration fee. Enclose an SAE (or
International Reply Coupon if sending abroad) and wait for the reply
first. This avoids the problems associated with people moving house
or changing computers and the most you can lose is the price of a
couple of stamps.
Troubleshooting
---------------
In the event that a piece of software fails to run (bombs, errors
etc), it can be due to one of three reasons:-
1. The software needs to be run from Drive A or expects to be on the
root directory of the drive from which it was run (something we cannot
do on the CD). Try copying the entire folder initially to the root
(i.e. main) directory of a hard drive partition or failing that, a
floppy disk. This will resolve most problems.
2. The software cannot run from a folder (wherever it is located). In
this case, copy all files out of the folder onto the root directory of
your hard drive partition or onto a floppy disk. If there are further
sub-folders within the main folder ensure that these are kept intact,
it's only the topmost folder which is not required.
3. The software only runs on a monochrome (or colour) monitor and you
are using the wrong monitor type. Try switching over to the opposite
monitor type if appropriate. If not, use one of the emulators in the
USEFUL folder on this CD. Please read the installation instructions
carefully as they need to be installed correctly before use.
4. The software does not run on your version of the operating system
(TOS). It is the case with a small number of programs that they do not
operate correctly on all operating systems. If this is the case,
there's really nothing more you can do (other than look for another
utility which performs the same task and does run on your operating
system).
5. There are corrupted/missing files. We did our best to check
everything was in working order and that all files were copied across
to the CD. Having said that, we're only human and bound to have made a
few mistakes due to the huge number of files on this disc. The CD is
not mastered on an Atari computer so it's impossible to check the
files after they have been copied across. If we've goofed, sorry. The
best we can suggest is that you check out our full Shareware catalogue
and order a copy of the required floppy disk.
About this CD
-------------
As I have already mentioned, most of the software on this CD is
Shareware (see above), Public Domain (completely free of charge - no
money changes hands) or Freeware (free of charge but the author
retains his copyright - donations are appreciated but not mandatory).
As the software is being supplied to you free of charge (apart from
our time and materials) we cannot guarantee any item on this disk to
be fit for a particular purpose. Similarly, we are unable to offer any
sort of technical backup service with regard to the software on the
disc. If you have difficulty with a particular piece of software, you
should contact the author enclosing an SAE (or International Reply
Coupons if sending abroad) for assistance, rembering to register the
software where appropriate. In the case of a faulty disk, we are happy
to replace provided you return the original to us (IN SUITABLY PADDED
PACKAGING) within two weeks of reciept. It is your responsibility to
ensure that returned goods arrive back at Floppyshop undamaged!
FREE COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE!
-------------------------
No this is not a misprint! As well as containing save disabled demo
versions of Floppyshop's commercial releases, we have also included
the full versions of FOUR products on this CD.
DEGASART by Markotek - The full version of this highly acclaimed three
part computer graphics tutorial, normally sold separately for £5.00 +
P&P. No strings attached, just enjoy this one as a thank you for
continuing to support Atari software developers. Degasart runs in low
resolution only.
X-Lator by Gair Shields - The full registered version of this
excellent German to English translation program. Reads in an ASCII
file and does its best to translate it into English. A Floppyshop
exclusive (everyone else stocks the unregistered version). Once again,
no strings attached, just enjoy.
FAMILY ROOTS I - The original version of Floppyshop's popular
genealogy program. This is the full version of the program with
nothing disabled. Construct your family tree and save it to disk. Just
one catch, it only supports print out to 9-pin printers and that is
only of the same quality as an ALT-HELP screendump. Come on, give us a
break, it was only v1.00! When you feel that you need a decent
printout or you outgrow this version, you might want to consider
purchasing Family Roots II. It is vastly improved over the original
release and available at low cost. It also reads v1.00 files and
converts them to the new format automatically, so there's nothing to
retype. Check out the included demo version of Family Roots II and its
accompanying text file.
EDITH PROFESSIONAL - A Floppyshop exclusive, the full version of
Edith Professional. Edith is a very highly specified text editor
from Germany. It is Multi-TOS and SpeedoGDOS compatible and
resolution independent. Features include context sensitive on-line
help, multiple rulers, auto word wrap, dialogs inside moveable
windows, iconification of windows, multiple clipboards and
support for coloured text. Executable files may be loaded and exited
in the same way as with the likes of Knife ST. The ability to
expand abbreviations into complete words or phrases is another major
feature as is the ability to increase the on-screen text size to
assist those who are partially sighted. It may be fair to say
that Edith really is the best there is when it comes to text
editors. This is the full commercial version and is included on this
CD-ROM with the author's written permission. It may not be
redistributed by PDLs, on-line services or on other CD-ROM
compilations. Development on Edith has ceased and no support is
available for this program. Having said that, you've got it for
free, so enjoy!
NAVIGATING AROUND THE CD
------------------------
Finding your way around any CD can be a nightmare! With this in mind,
you will find a folder entitled DIRECTOR.Y inside the _CATALOG folder.
It contains versions of the ST/STe and TT/Falcon catalogue programs
along with the appropriate text files describing the contents of this
CD. In addition you will find a README.1ST file in the main folders
which mentions what type of software you should expect to find in the
folder. Finally there's a DIR.TXT file in the same location showing
the entire directory structure for the relevant folder.
OTHER SOFTWARE FROM FLOPPYSHOP
------------------------------
Our full catalogues for the Atari ST and Falcon 030 are included in
the _CATALOG folder. They detail all the software in our extensive
collection along with current pricing. Please note that we reserve the
right to alter the contents of any disk at any time (this seldom
happens unless a program outgrows its disk space) so it is advisable
that you either order up a copy of the latest catalogue prior to
ordering (if the one on this disc is more than two months' old) or
confirm which programs (as well as the disk numbers) you require when
ordering. Finally, check out the readme in the appropriate catalogue
folder first, it's important!

CARE OF YOUR CD-R
-----------------
Your CD-ROM disc is supplied on CD-R (write once) media. The CD-Rs
used by Floppyshop are of the highest quality, manufactured by well
known suppliers. Cared for properly they will give you many years of
reliable, trouble-free use. Indeed, next to CD-ROM (the silver rather
than gold variety) they are the most durable media available today.
Having said that, there are several points you should bear in mind.
The surface of a CD-R is more delicate than that of a conventional
CD-ROM disc. According you should not:-
1. Touch the recording surface (the underside) of a CD-R or place it
on a hard surface. Always handle it by the edges and store in the
supplied case when not in use.
2. Do not expose to direct sunlight or leave the CD-R in a hot,
humid location.
3. If the underside of the CD-R becomes dirty/dusty, clean with a
soft dry cloth or one of the many commercially available CD cleaning
kits. Do not use solvents as they can damage the disc.
4. If scratches do appear (this is unlikely if you observe the above)
there are several commercially available CD scratch remover kits. Use
one of these as directed.
5. If you must write on the labelled (i.e. gold) side of the CD-R,
you must use the correct type of marker pen specifically manufactured
for this purpose. You must not under any circumstances write on the
underside of the CD-R.
